Three Nights of Racing for the Wasmund Team
Matt Wasmund out of Jackson, MN traveled to Huset's Speedway on June 29th to race their local show another time before the World of Outlaws would arrive there coming up on the third of July. This particular night was a night to get the bugs worked out and do some testing on the racetrack before the big race with the Outlaws. For qualifying the Wasmund Team had an unfortunate issue with the spindle on the front axle which in turn allowed the hub to come off. Fortunately this happened in qualifying where the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis was by itself and was not in harm’s way of other racers. With not being able to qualify, Matt had to start in the back of the heat race and was able to race his way into the eighth position. For the Main Event at Huset's Speedway, the Wasmund Team started in the 17th Spot and charged forward up to 10th, but then on the restart, Johnn Cressman spun in front of the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis collecting Matt and ending his night with only six laps remaining. With only three days to fix the car, Jody from Jackson Machine helped repair the frame for the Wasmund Team and with Jody's help, the Wasmund Team was able to enter the World of Outlaws show at Huset's on the Third of July.
Wasmund set a time just over the 11 second mark in qualifying which gave him a 9th starting position in the first heat of the World of Outlaws show at the Home of the Professionals of Huset's Speedway. Getting a great start and jumping up to the seventh spot in the heat race set the mood for the Wasmund Team until a cut right rear tire put an early end to the anticipated 10 lap shootout. Since a cut tire did not allow the Wasmund Team to finish the Heat, a B-Main was next in line. Starting outside of the transfer spot, Matt was able to race his way in and transfer to the Main Event. The night was an overall success for the Wasmund Team, they were able to race their way into the Feature and have a respectable showing for the Keizer Wheels, Ridgeway Lumber Machine number 4w Outlaw Sprint Car.
After the Outlaw show it was right back to Huset's the following Sunday night. Matt made an impressive top ten qualifying effort which put him on the second row for the Heat. He was able to race his way up to second, but unfortunately ran out of laps and was unable to take the lead. Starting on the outside pole of the Feature Event, the Wasmund Racing Team knew that it would be a good night. Falling back a few spots early in the race, allowed Matt to put the elbows up and race back up to the 4th position.
