Wasmund Racing - Preparing for the Knoxville Natls07/27/2009
This past Saturday, Matt Wasmund of Jackson, MN, took the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis to Knoxville Raceway to make a few laps before the upcoming 49th Annual Super Clean Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil. With the good motor waiting in line at the dyno, the Wasmund team went to Knoxville with the short track motor and knew that they would be behind the eight ball due to the lack of power. “We came down here tonight to test our car and give us some laps before the nationals,” explains Wasmund. “We broke the crank in our big motor last June up in Fargo (Red River Valley Speedway, West Fargo, ND 6/20) and we are still waiting for that to come back from the engine dyno… so we are here tonight with our short track motor.” The Wasmund team qualified towards the rear of the 34 car lineup with the underpowered engine which put the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis on the outside of the fourth row in the heat race. Matt finished 8th in the ten lap heat, which put the 4w on the fifth row for the start of the “B-Main.” He climbed up to 8th in the “B-Main” missing the transfer spot, but had a very good night with the car. “The car was fantastic,” says Matt. “I don’t feel bad at all about where we finished tonight because we came here on the notion for a test night. I think our Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis is good to go for the nationals and when we get our motor back we’ll have one more practice night during the 360 Nationals and we will be ready to rock for the 410 Nationals on the 12th.” Next up for the Wasmund Racing team will be this Friday at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, IA. Rock Rapids will be having a special 410 winged sprint show and will also have the “Traditional HRA Wingless Sprints” to add to the program. DID YOU KNOW? Matt’s limited ’09 schedule of 6 races thus far has brought the team three top ten finishes including a 9th place finish at Deer Creek Speedway with the IRA Sprints, a 7th at I-90 Speedway and a 5th place finish at the high-banked Huset’s Speedway. Top Ten for Wasmund – IRA Sprints at Deer Creek...07/20/2009
Jackson, Minnesota native Matt Wasmund took the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis up to Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN this past weekend to compete against the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints. Being the last car out, Wasmund qualified 15th quick to start out the evening. Matt then lined up on the outside front row in the third heat race in which he maintained that 2nd position until another car insisted on a slide job against the 4w almost sending Matt into the wall. Wasmund recovered, but fell back to 5th and was still able that transfer spot into the main event. The outside of the seventh row is where the 4w started in the main event and at the start, Matt dropped back in the field to 18th. “The start for us didn’t go like we needed to,” says Matt. “But, after I fell back and started making laps the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis really came to and the car was working great!” Wasmund raced his way up to ninth to cap off the evening and was able to put another top 10 finish in the ’09 stats. “We’re very happy with this top 10,” explains Wasmund. “We got to the track late, but we managed to stay out of the B-Main and pass quite a few cars today! I have to really thank my crew for giving me such a great car to drive tonight!” Next up for the Wasmund Racing team will be this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA to get a couple events in on the legendary speedway to prepare themselves for the upcoming nationals. Top Five for Wasmund at Husets!06/29/2009
Matt Wasmund out of Jackson, Minnesota took the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis to Huset’s Speedway this past weekend to get a little practice run in before the very anticipated World of Outlaw show coming up this Friday. There were 18 cars that entered the night of the 28th of June and Matt qualified in the upper half of the field at 7th with a time of 11.622. “The car felt really good in qualifying,” explains Matt, “After the motor blew at the Fargo WoO show (World of Outlaws – June 20th) we had to use our back-up motor for tonight’s show. It was strong and I am really looking forward to this coming Friday.” With Wasmund’s time, he was lined up to start on the inside of the second row in the second heat race. The car was just a bit off as Matt fell back to 6th at the time of checkered so then he had to start back in the sixth row at 12th for the main event. Throughout the 25 lap contest, Wasmund powered through the field to make the first top five finish of the season for Wasmund Racing. Matt had a right rear tire going down that started about half way through the race which made the restarts difficult for the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis, but once the tire generated some heat, the car was really good and was fast enough to still climb forward. “We missed the set up for the heat race as the track changed on us just a little bit,” says Matt, “But my guys, Todd and George, changed the car up a bit for the main and really made it fast! It hurt us some with the tire going down because the car was a handful on the restarts trying to keep it in the rubber. We are very happy with the way the night turned out and it is always nice to see the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis in the top five.” Next up for the Wasmund Racing team will be this Friday racing with the fastest sprint cars on dirt, the World of Outlaws. Matt’s last contest with the World of Outlaws was last October in Princeton, MN where he had to come through the field of the “B” to race himself into the main event. Be sure to keep tabs on Matt and the gang through the team website, www.wasmundracing.com and don’t forget to hit up the contact page and sign up for the weekly press releases. Tough Luck for Wasmund Racing in Fargo06/22/2009
Matt Wasmund out of Jackson, MN took the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis up to Fargo, North Dakota to race with the World of Outlaws this past Saturday night to make the second appearance of the season for the team. He qualified with a time of 17.2 which would have been good enough to sit him 20th out of the 32 cars entered, but was disqualified due to the nose wing being too far forward on the chassis. He then had to start 8th in the heat and attempt to make the top five to guarantee a starting position in the main event. Wasmund powered to 6th by the time the checkered flag was thrown but was just one spot out of the transfer. With the DQ for qualifying, the 4w had to start at the tail end of the 12 car B-main and would have to finish in the top four to make the main. The Jackson native drove the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis up to 6th, but with only a few laps remaining the crankshaft broke going down the long backstretch of Red River Valley Speedway and caused a very disappointing end to the evening. “I was very happy with the car all night,” explains Matt, “The guys’ had the car working great and we had plenty of power, but when the vibrations started on the backstretch I knew it wasn’t going to be good. This is not a good start to the season, but we will get back to the shop and go over a few things and be back on the track very shortly!” The team was going to swing down to Huset’s Speedway for Sunday night weekly 410 Outlaw Sprint event, but it was cancelled due to rain. Season Starts for Wasmund Racing06/08/2009
Matt Wasmund out of Jackson, MN headed out to the special 410 Sprint show at I-90 Speedway this past Friday to get the 2009 season underway. He qualified 6th quick with an 11.40 just 4 tenths off the leader. Starting on the outside of the first row in the heat race, Matt held his own until the 23w of Scott Winters managed to get around the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis and set the finishing order for the heat of Ballenger, Winters and Wasmund rounding out the top three. With a young fan from the stands pulling out the #8 pill, Wasmund was able to start in the upper half of the field on the outside of row four. Throughout the 25 lap contest, the Jackson, MN native powered through the field and up to fourth until the rubber came down late in the race. Matt missed the rubber that was laid up on the top of the race track was overtaken by a couple other drivers dropping the Wasmund Racing 4w to the eighth position capping off the evening. “I feel the night was very solid,” explains Matt, “It was the first race of the year for us and we used tonight to make sure the car was ready to rock. The Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis was perfect all night and I can’t wait to see what is to come for the remainder of the season!” Next up for the Wasmund Racing Team will be Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD to compete against some of the best in the Midwest on the high banked 3/8ths dirt oval. '08 Season Review for Wasmund Racing12/01/2008
The off season is always busy for racers; Wasmund Racing put together a brand new Keizer Aluminum Wheels XXX Chassis to be shown at the XXX Race Company booth at the Performance Racing Industry event this coming week in Orlando, Florida. Wasmund Racing put together a successful 2008 season, as some mishaps with the truck and trailer earlier in the year and the high price of diesel fuel shortened the schedule. Matt traveled to many different tracks throughout the season of ’08 and always gave the fans something to look forward to. Wasmund not only had some awesome runs at Huset’s Speedway with a top 5 finish along with some respectable drives racing with the NOSA boys’ in Huron, SD and the tough competition of the IRA in Beaver Dam, but Matt also raced his way into every World of Outlaw show he entered. “It was a fair year”, explains the veteran driver, “ when you combine the motor exploding at the Nationals (Knoxville Nationals ’08) with some of the other mechanical misfortunes we had throughout the year, overall the year went fairly well.” “The cars were always good, and the more races we race, the better the chemistry is amongst the team and the faster we are.” With the highs and lows throughout the 2008 season, Matt and the gang will take all the knowledge gained and put it forth for an exciting ’09 season to come. A very special thanks needs to go out XXX Race Company, Keizer Wheels, Ultrashield, Rod End Supply, Behlings Racing Equipment, DMI, Pro Shocks, Hoosier Racing Tires, Lev Wings, Rocket Headers, Harvey’s Signs, Last Deck, Driver Websites, Bell Helmets, Rushmore Plumbing, Jackson Chiropractic, Arizona Sport Shirts, Race Deck, Ridgeway Lumber, Worthington Excavating, Smith Trucking, Natural Health and Chiropractic, Todd Sampson and George Tauer. If you plan on attending the PRI show this week, be sure to swing by the XXX Race Company booth to check out the new car and all of XXX’s new products. Clay County Fair Re-Cap for Wasmund Racing 09/11/2008
Sprint Car driver Matt Wasmund out of Jackson, Minnesota takes the Wasmund Racing Team Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis to the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa last night to compete against the toughest sprint car drivers and teams across the nation, the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws. Matt put the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis in the top 25 with his qualifying efforts to set him up for the battle in the heat race. With a relatively stacked heat along with a one lane, very fast racetrack, Matt held his own on the track, but unfortunately did not make the transfer into that precious Main Event. Matt and the gang made a few adjustments to the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis just before the start of the Semi. This was Matt’s last opportunity to make it into the Main Event and compete for that $10,000. The changes that were made to the car was all Matt needed to make it into the Main. Matt transferred out of the Semi and guaranteed the Wasmund Team a 21st starting position in the Main Event. With only two laps down, the right rear tire went down on Matt which forced Matt to pull it into the pits. A very respectable run for the Wasmund Team, a start in the Main of an Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaw show is never an easy feat. Keep in tune with Matt and the gang through their team website www.wasmundracinginc.com to follow up on all the latest press releases and race results. Beaver Dam Re-Cap for Wasmund Racing08/18/2008
Matt Wasmund out of Jackson, MN, takes the Wasmund Racing Team to Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, WI, this past weekend for yet another battle with the Interstate Racing Association Outlaw Sprints (IRA). With a late qualifying start, Wasmund set a 7th quick time out of 31 other competitors to begin the evening. Matt started the Heat Race in the 5th spot and raced his way up to the 3rd position to retrieve his qualifying efforts and make the re-draw for the lineup of the Main Event. With the luck of the draw on his side, Matt was able to start the Main on the pole. Matt got a great start in the Main, but since the car next to him didn’t, the IRA officials thought Matt jumped the gun so they threw the yellow flag and put Matt one row back. On the restart, Matt took off and ran third until yet another yellow flag was thrown. They scored Matt to be in the 5th spot in which he actually was sitting third, so on the next restart Matt shot off at fifth. Late in the race, Matt spun as he was attempting to lap a car sending him to the back of the field. With just a few laps remaining in the Main Event, Wasmund was able to race the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis up to the 12th position ending the night. An impressive run for the Wasmund Team given the circumstances of the scoring issues and be sure to follow Matt through his website www.wasmundracinginc.com for as a win for the Team is certainly soon to come. Wasmund Racing would like to thank Steve Sinclair of the Scoring Team for the respectable apology following the Main Event. Knoxville Nationals Re-Cap for Wasmund Racing08/11/2008
The 48th running of the SuperClean Knoxville Nationals was the next event on the schedule for the Wasmund Racing Team out of Jackson, MN. Matt and the gang arrived to the track early for that his scheduled qualifying time was to be on Wednesday. Unfortunately, there are times when things just don’t go right for a race team, and that is what Wasmund Racing experienced the first night out. Everyone gets a few hot laps in before the beginning of the night, and for Wasmund, it was just a time for him to go out and blow up an engine. Not a good start to the night, but the team came very well prepared as another car and motor was ready to go. Unfortunately, with the truck and trailer being out in the parking lot, the team had to leave the pits to get the backup car ready and back into the track. The team hurried to get the car ready by the time the C-Main lined up, but just ran out of time. With over 100 of the best sprint car teams in the nation showing up to this race, there are two nights of qualifying. Thursday night, the other half of the field had to hit the track to attempt two fast laps to make them into the show. Wasmund attempted to qualify, but the officials wouldn’t allow the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis machine to touch the racetrack since his qualifying day was the day before. Tough break, but the team just had to sit Thursday out and wait for the qualifying heats on the next day of the Nationals. With the small backup motor in the car, and acquiring no points thus far throughout the Nationals, the Wasmund Team had to start in the back of one of the toughest heats during the Nationals. Starting 10th, Matt had to race his way up through the field to even have a chance to make it into the B-Main. Knowing his way around the speedway, Matt put the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis in the eighth spot to transfer into that precious B-Main. Wasmund started in the back of the B-Main and raced his way up to the 17th spot on the narrow, very fast racetrack. With one night left for the 48th Annual Knoxville Nationals, Matt and the gang had one last chance to race their way up through the field to start the main event. Not an easy feat, as over 70 cars would needed to be passed to start the Main Event. Matt started towards the rear of the pack in the E-Main and raced his way up to just two spots out of the transfer spot. Overall, it was not a bad weekend for the Wasmund Team. Blowing the engine on the first night and not being able to set a qualifying time really puts a team behind the eight ball for the Knoxville Nationals. But, giving the circumstances, the Wasmund Team put forth an excellent effort to jump over that wall that was placed in front of them at the beginning of the week. Stay tuned to www.wasmundracinginc.com for all the latest news and result updates as for the next race on the schedule for the Wasmund Team is an IRA event in Wilmot, WI. Special Thanks to Keizer Wheels, XXX Race Company, Rushmore Plumbing, Jackson Chiropractic, Worthington Excavating, Awesome Racewear, Ridgeway Lumber, Driver Websites, Steffl Drilling, American Compressed Steel, American Race Tires, Behling Racing Equipment, Natural Health & Chiropractic, Rod End Supply, Smith Trucking, Bell racing, UltraShield, DMI and Pro Shocks.

IRA Racing for the Wasmund Team07/21/2008
After a week off for the Wasmund Racing Team, Matt and the gang packed up the hauler and headed down to Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, to compete with some of the fastest in the IRA. This past week, Matt and the gang built a brand new machine and with a brand new power-plant, Matt put the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis in the top half of the field in qualifying setting a 16th quick time amongst 32 other drivers to start out the night at Hancock Speedway. Starting third in the heat, Matt struggled with the car due to a brake failure and lost a few spots, but he kept his elbows up and raced a broken car back up to the number three spot to guarantee him a starting position in the Main Event. Wasmund started in the eighth row in the Main and with a few cars past and a few laps down, the brakes in the Wasmund Machine failed yet again, forcing Matt to end his night early. After the night was over the Wasmund Team found that the new master cylinder in the brake system was the cause of all the pain and agony throughout the night in Britt. With the car fixed, the Wasmund team headed to Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota, for another battle with the IRA. After hot laps, Mother Nature decided to darken up the skies and allow the water to fall, shortening the evening for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Event. Next week’s plans for the Wasmund Team is to head up to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota, followed by an event in Warren, Minnesota, to compete with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA). Be sure to keep up with Matt through his website www.wasmundracinginc.com and also would like to give a special thanks to Keizer Wheels, XXX Race Company, Rushmore Plumbing, Jackson Chiropractic, Worthington Excavating, Awesome Racewear, Ridgeway Lumber, Driver Websites, Steffl Drilling, American Compressed Steel, American Race Tires, Behling Racing Equipment, Natural Health & Chiropractic, Rod End Supply, Smith Trucking, Bell racing, UltraShield, DMI and Pro Shocks.
