Matt Wasmund Racing - Top Five with NOSA at Alexan
It has been three years since Wasmund Racing has been to Viking Speedway in Alexandria, Minnesota, and with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association coming to the ½ mile speedway, Matt and the Wasmund Racing team decided to head up there this past Saturday to test their skills against some of the best 410 Sprint Car drivers in the North.
There were no hot laps for the drivers due to the amount of classes and the speedway had to be wrapped up by 10:30PM, so the heat race was the first time the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis hit the track. Matt drew a low pill number which put the 4w on the pole for the heat. Matt confidently drove away from the field, nailing down a heat race win with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association.
The re-draw didn’t go in Matt’s favor as with the draw he had to start on the outside of row number four at 8th and with the amount of cars that were racing, the track was drying out and taking rubber fast.
The crew set the car up to be fast late in the race when the rubber became more dominate, and the crew did a fantastic job as at about lap 15 the Keizer Wheels XXX Chassis began moving forward after dropping back a few spots early on. Matt drove up to fourth throughout the last 10 laps on the rubber-down racing surface and by the time the checkered flag flew, the rear tires looked like drag slicks.
“It was awesome driving through the field towards the end,” exclaims Wasmund. “I knew we were going to be fast since the heat went so well, but then we drew that number 8 pill which put us behind the eight ball to start out the main. But, I had to put my trust in the guys, I knew they would give me a great race car, and a top five finish is exactly what we needed!”
